Description:
A short project consisting of a pair of singles, ‘So On’ and ‘Triflin’’, Parker Jason has reminded us what makes him so special. Intermixed with a spoken word segment that samples Drake and a feature from Lonely Boyirl, he delivers his consistently lyrical flow. The production is simple and stripped down, with both tracks consisting of a drumkit and synth, and this puts all focus onto Parker Jason himself. His delivery is his typical style - slightly higher pitched, fast paced, and always hard hitting. The contrast between Parker and Lonely Boyirl works very well on ‘Triflin’, adding a little more of a unique sound to the track. However, I think I prefer ‘So On’ overall due to its more consistent sound. This project has everything we’ve come to want and expect from Parker in terms of quality and replayability, and the only changes we’d want to see is a higher level of vocal production and a more diverse style/ more experimentation. I love the use of the Drake sample as an interlude in ‘So On’, as that adds character and personality to the track and helps make it more memorable, and hopefully one day we can see an official Parker Jason x Drake collab.
Overall, these singles show continued progress from Parker Jason and are a sign of a future full-length project that will be his best yet - however, we’d love to see him try new things and diversify his sound (such as new delivery and song styles).
