The SoCal rap scene has long been considered to be a top source of fresh talent, and The Homie Sucio is next up to pop off. Hustling to get by throughout his teens taught him how to grind and put in effort, and writing poetry and verses throughout middle and high school gave him the lyrical background he needed to find success as a rapper. Inspired by Tupac, his message of self love and hard work are shown throughout everything he does.
Sucio’s music is everything you’d hope for from a SoCal rapper - throughout the six singles he released in 2020, he exemplifies the chill vibe, slick lyricism, and likable personality you need from an artist. Our personal favorite track, ‘Kush Smoke’, features piano+synth trap production and a catchy chorus alongside bouncy yet hard verses and a fantastic feature from Money Moons, who brings some intensity to balance out Sucio’s smooth style. Both artists talk about their grind and the success they’ve found at the top as well as how they got there- this track is at its heart a celebration of the lifestyle they’ve made with their music career, and a toast to their successful future. Other tracks like ‘Dummy Slapper’ and ‘2 Fly’ (both solo efforts from Sucio) and ‘Like You Do’ (featuring Chris Rayy) are all also standouts from this year. Each demonstrates The Homie Sucio’s talent for classic vibe tracks- a natural musician, he glides over the laidback production with smooth verses and catchy flows that’ll be stuck in your head for days.
From getting jumped as a young teen to having a son, Sucio uses his experiences to influence his writing, shown by his stories of what he’s been through and how he’s made it to where he is. While his music isn’t the lyrical-focused style like you would expect from K.A.A.N. or K!d Hype, he has plenty of punchlines and wordplay to keep each track interesting. Listen to the chorus of ‘Dummy Slapper’ and you’ll see what we mean. It’s the type of creativity that enhances the site listening experience- many artists can make chill vibe tracks, but the punchlines Sucio includes make his stand out, especially combined with his voice and flow.
