After exploring Pareto and his music in an article we wrote back in the spring, we were excited to follow his career and eagerly anticipated new music from the emerging artist. Today, Pareto dropped his debut project “Generation of Desolation”, an emotional and vivid EP that brilliantly showcases everything we’ve seen from the Massachusetts talent. Featuring three new songs as well as excellent production, vocals and lyricism, this project tells stories through music and will definitely be an EP you’ll listen to more than once. If you want to know a bit more about Pareto and the singles he’s released before this project, click here for the article we wrote about him back in April. Now let’s get into the project with a breakdown of each song from start to finish.

  1. Voices-

Released February 7, 2021, Voices was a very strong addition to Pareto’s discography of singles and makes for an excellent opening to the EP. The song starts with an introduction to the beat that sets the tone, followed by a measured flow from Pareto that dissolves into the vocals and chorus that make up most of the track. Voices offers the listener a glimpse into the mind of the artist, with his thoughts and ideas forming the lyrics that are expressed through both soft vocals and the previously mentioned measured flow at the beginning. This song also features an excellent rhyme scheme and acts as a smooth first track for the project.

  2. Fight The Feeling

The final single to be released before the EP, this emotional track dives into growing up and the struggles that come with it, as well as the desire to be living the life you want rather than what other people think is best for you. Fight the Feeling features high level production with the slow and melodic beats that fit perfectly with Pareto’s style, and he also goes into a faster flow between his vocals. This song has one of my favorite lines on the EP, “It’s just hard to take a leap when you’re fearing the fall”, a line relatable to many and one that sounds incredible within the song.

  3. Calling

A new song that came with the EP, Calling has one of my favorite choruses on the project and is overall an excellent listening experience. Diving into concepts like living our best life and letting go of what causes us anxieties, this track has a strong message like many of Pareto’s best numbers.

  4. Nemo

Another new song, Nemo may be the most unique track on the project, and I love this song for that. Multiple beat switches and stylistic change ups through the song give it character, including a beat switch at 1:11 that is probably my favorite moment on the album. There’s so much to enjoy with this song, it’s replayable and sounds amazing after multiple listens, and a strong candidate for my favorite song on the EP.

  5. Long Drive

Released back in 2020, this was the first track from the EP to be released and also the first song I heard from Pareto. The song is on the longer side, and is a brilliant collage of guitar, fantastic production, vocals and lyricism that put it near the top of Pareto’s discography. I wrote about everything that makes this song perfect in Pareto’s first article back in April, and I would highly recommend it to new listeners of Pareto because it perfectly highlights his skills as an artist. It also has a great music video on YouTube that matches the vibe the track creates.

  6. Missed Dreams

A slow paced song that serves as the conclusion to the project, Missed Dreams features very strong lyricism and a talking paced flow that works perfectly with the beat. The ending is my favorite part of the song, as the soft vocals and beat wind down into a serene close to the EP, capping it off perfectly.

Generation of Desolation is an incredible debut project from Pareto, a beautiful indie EP that is sure to attract new listeners for the emerging artist. I can imagine myself driving through the mountains with these songs on repeat, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for music that they can play over and over again while keeping the vibe going. Generation of Desolation is out everywhere today, and you can stream it on Spotify here. Follow Pareto on Instagram here for updates from the artist, and we’ll be dropping artist overviews of him and his work soon on our pages. Thanks for reading!
