Growing up in Chicago, Lyrik dealt with a lot of hardship and struggle - now, as a rising star in the Dallas rap scene (though he’s been grinding outta Chicago because of Covid, and that’s where his studio is at) he’s been able to turn it into positive and incredible music. Using his platform to reach out and share his message with the world, he creates music that not only sounds good but also has a deeper meaning. Tracks like ‘Real Sh!t Tho’ and ‘Why’ discuss internal problems within his community, and even though they’re powerful and insightful, they still go hard. Lyrik’s abilities aren’t limited to only his writing- every song on his recent project, Ventilations, is also catchy and unique. Never sacrificing the quality and enjoyability of his songs, you know you’ll get a banger every time. This unique combination of exceptional lyricism and memorable sound is rarely seen from any rapper, let alone an underground artist. Lyrik doesn’t even limit himself to rap: he is heavily influenced by Chris Brown and Mary J. Blige, and often sings or uses J. Cole-style sing-rap in his choruses. His ability to switch up the style mid-song keeps each track fresh. As he said himself in an interview with us, you get “the best of both worlds”. All of this contributes to his outstanding ability to connect with his fans. He also counts among his influences Ludacris, Nas, Biggie, Pac, and all of the classic rappers. You can see their influence through his writing, but his rapping/singing style is modern and unique.
